The 3 best short walks in Oban

A wee walk a day can do wonders for your physical and mental health, and give you a great sense of escapism.

We have teamed up with Wee Walk Oban – a project aimed at getting more people to get outdoors and exercise, responsibly.

The Wee Walk Oban website has a resource of local walks to encourage all to explore the beautiful town of Oban by foot and promotes environmental responsibility and healthy, active lifestyles outdoors.

We asked the Wee Walk Oban team to compile a list of their favourite short walks in Oban and here’s what they had to say:

Here is a list of our top 3 wee walks in Oban, and why we love them:

Battleship Hill

This short walk gives a breathtaking panorama of Oban bay, Kerrera, Mull, Ardnamurchan and then all the way round to Ben Cruachan (on a clear day of course!). It also provides a unique perspective of Ganavan. An easy stroll down the front leads to a short but steep ascent to the top of Battleship Hill, and then back along “The Witches”, as it’s known locally, providing great variety for such a short walk.

We have three routes on our website that go through the amazing Glencruitten estate; this one winds through many of the several paths in the lovely forest. We like this one because it’s a great quick escape from town and is a brilliant walk in any weather.

Ardbhan Crags

“Unique view of Oban, small yet exciting ridge walk.” Copyright Wee Walk Oban

This walk gives a very unique view of the area, and almost feels like a mini hillwalk with its exposed drops from the ridge. Paying a visit to Pulpit Hill at the beginning of the walk, it then leads away from town towards Kerrera Ferry via the old drovers road, before returning on the Ardbhan Crags with the Kerrara Sound below and the stunning views all round.
